What is the Family Law Workshop?

In Georgia, people may file court actions without a lawyer. Those who do are responsible for knowing and following court procedures, and by law, court staff cannot give legal advice to self-represented people.

This workshop was set up to help people who choose not to hire a lawyer in the traditional way.

Every case has its own facts, but there are basic rules every case must follow. This workshop covers those rules and answers basic questions about the court system. No workshop can teach you everything you need to represent yourself.

Legal information, not legal advice. You are still responsible for completing all forms and following all procedures.

What does the workshop cover?

  • Divorce
  • Contempt
  • Paternity / Legitimation
  • Modification of Child Support

Limited-scope attorney referral

Some people don't want or can't afford a lawyer for their whole case, but need help with one issue or one part of it. Several attorneys offer specific, limited legal services at set rates. Workshop participants will get information on this type of help.

Court forms for divorce, legitimation, contempt, child support, service and more are on the Forms & Documents page.
